Commitment No. 35 - Addressing industry uncertainties on skill needs

The Foresight Report underlined the difficulty of planning future skills and manpower requirements, because of the constantly changing and reactive nature of our industry to external factors. We actively support OPITO's initiative to develop a mapping process to capture data on disciplines and sectoral employment. Aligned with the government-led Workforce Development Plan, it will help all industry sectors to plan staff and skills needs for the future.

Progress to date : achievements and difficulties encountered

As mentioned in Commitment No.24, Skills Foresight 2 is due to be published later this year. cogent is one of the new trail-blazer Sector Skills Councils, appointed by government, and its responsibilities have been widened to encompass those previously undertaken by OPITO (upstream) and two downstream national training organisations, PINTO and CMPNTO, with whom we share many skills and core competences. An implementation plan is due to be agreed later in 2002.
