Commitment No. 33 - Working with other industries (especially users of sea)
We will continue to explore mutual issues with the fishing industry with whom we have established a good working relationship and investigate the benefits of extending this dialogue to other marine industries.
Progress to date : achievements and difficulties encountered
We continue to maintain relationships with the fishing industry which are now well established, enabling issues to be discussed and resolved before difficulties arise (see Commitment No.34). We are also building our relationships with the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) and other marine interests in the following ways:
- we work closely with the standby vessel owners, through their Emergency Response & Recovery Vessels Association (ERRVA), holding 6 monthly meetings; with them, we have issued guidelines on the safe management and operation of these vessels;
- in conjunction with various organisations, including the HSE, MCA, Trade Unions, Chamber of Shipping, Intertanko and ERRVA, we have developed guidelines for the avoidance of collisions between shipping and our installations; these will be published in 3rd quarter of 2002;
- there is now an MCA representative on UKOOAs Marine and FPSO Committees;
through the Marine Safety Forum, a joint Chamber of Shipping and UKOOA body which meets every 6 months, we are targeting a reduction in accidents on supply vessels which are an essential part of the support to our offshore activities guidelines on the safe handling of cargo and on the safe management and operation of support vessels have been issued.
