Commitment No. 11 - E-commerce
|
|
|
"We will encourage promotion and development of e-commerce within the industry. The first step is to set up a series of workshops targeted at SMEs among suppliers and contractors to raise awareness and stimulate discussion."

Progress to date : achievements and difficulties encountered

This is an important part of LOGIC's activities in enhancing the performance of the supply chain; during 2001, workshops have been held, "an Introduction to e-Business", for more than 300 SME participants in Aberdeen, Great Yarmouth, Durham and London. An "e-collaboration" showcase was held in January 2002 with 14 exhibitors and an attendance of over 300. Also, some 250 companies have been surveyed regarding the importance and use of e-commerce, the results of which are determining LOGIC's future activities in this area.
Other e-commerce promotions have been/will be:
- customised e-business workshops for a major operator;
- continuation of an Introduction to e-Business courses;
- partnership with BusinessLab in the development of Digital Advantage e-Business Strategy workshop and its e.30 Programme;
- co-ordinating the establishment of international e-commerce standards for ordering, invoicing and product/services classifications;
- secured the contract from UK-Online for the "e-collaboration champions" programme which helps SMEs with collaborative projects; four are in hand, with a further call for new projects planned for June 2002;
- researching and publishing case studies to help promote e-commerce within the industry;
- organisation of an e-auctions seminar later in 2002;
- development of e-assessment workshops.
