Commitment No. 4 - Shared logistics
"We are examining opportunities for inter-company sharing and cross-industry agreements in the area of logistics. Our initial focus is on helicopter and supply-boat operations and helicopter terminals and supply bases also to be considered."

Progress to date : achievements and difficulties encountered

Transport by sea and by air is an essential, but expensive part of offshore operations. Through LOGIC, arrangements for sharing marine logistics (supply boats) were put in place in March 2001, with economic and environmental benefits for all participants: some £300,000 were saved between April and November, a significant part being in fuel costs.
In aviation, the necessary mutual hold harmless agreement was developed towards the end of 2001, allowing the sharing of helicopters. Trials are in hand and it is anticipated that this arrangement will deliver similar costs savings and environmental benefits.
An industry-wide Person on Board (POB) service is also being developed, via an Application service Provider, under the umbrella of this group, with some 14 operating companies involved. Working closely with the Vantage Offshore Passport system (see Commitment No. 22 below), the Vantage POB is one of Step Change in Safety's deliverables.
