UKOOA Sustainability Strategy 2002 - First Report
1. Economic Sustainability
1.1 Operational Efficiencies through co-operation
Commitment No. 3 - Undeveloped discoveries: clustering

"We are evaluating the potential of clustering undeveloped discoveries within a number of areas. These are trial projects to see if critical mass can be created to enable economic development. Champions for the six areas initially identified have been appointed and will be working in close collaboration with DTI."

Progress to date : achievements and difficulties encountered

This new process which is similar to Commitment No. 2 above has also been completed and is now being implemented. DTI is working with the individual cluster champions and a progress showcase with LOGIC and ITF is planned for later this year or early next on "Unlocking Challenging Reservoirs", with a study into heavy oil developments and possibly a workshop on key aspects of high pressure-high temperature fields. Again, new technology and the alignment of the different stakeholders are critical to success of this work in tapping otherwise uneconomic discoveries.
