Section B: The strategic plan: vision, objectives and actions

Our Vision for Sustainability

We will strive to maintain a competitive industry capable of attracting continuing investment and so contribute to economic prosperity through provision of energy, creation of jobs and development of technology, while generating a return for investors.

We will value our workforce and local communities, assisting them as far as possible to plan realistically their futures.

We will deliver continual improvement in our safety and environmental performance while making prudent use of natural resources. Section B: The strategic plan: vision, objectives and actions

Our Strategic Objectives

Economic: To enhance the UK offshore oil and gas industry's competitiveness in the global environment through its ability to attract continuing investment and thereby deliver long-term benefit (energy provision, employment and fiscal contribution) to the UK economy. We will achieve this by co-operating to realise operational efficiencies, by maximising mutual benefits within the supply chain, by stimulating development of new technology and by making best use of the existing infrastructure of platforms, pipelines and onshore plant.

Social: To conduct our business with full recognition of our contribution and responsibility to the society in which we operate. We will strive to achieve continual improvement in the safety and working conditions of all who are in our industry, engage with local stakeholders and other users of the sea, and support local authorities and local communities to plan ahead during this mature phase of UKCS development.

Environmental: To achieve continual improvement in the industry's offshore environmental performance and to develop continually our knowledge of the environmental impact of our operations. Through long-term goal setting, we will actively promote technological innovation to enable step changes in environmental performance. We will adopt the discipline of independently verified Environmental Management Systems in all our operations in order to drive these improvements in a transparent manner.

Stewardship: To ensure prudent use of resources in our operations through maximising recovery of oil and gas, by developing and applying new technologies, making the best use of existing infrastructure and by adopting a whole life cycle approach to issues of design, energy use, waste generation and the legacy we leave when our operations cease.

Delivery: To develop and update regularly the industry's sustainable development strategy, within the framework of our partnership with government, informed and influenced by an ongoing engagement with stakeholders and by sharing best practice within the industry. We will monitor and regularly report on performance.
