Conclusion Compiling this strategy has enabled the offshore oil and gas industry to carry out a rigorous self-examination. This has been instructive, setting probably for the first time a genuine benchmark of our performance in the key areas of economics, environment, social investment and stewardship. We have discovered that there are many good stories to tell - and that we have often been slow in telling them - and that there are other things we can do to improve what we do and how we do it, to become more responsive, more open and more accountable. The range of this strategy is extremely broad, outlining achievements to date and, more importantly, plans for the future, means of delivery and strategies for measurement. Everyone within the industry will have a part to play in striving to strike the right balance. This strategy is a just starting point in pursuit of this goal. We intend to measure progress, publish our results and renew this document regularly. In committing to this strategy, we are also committing to an organic growth in our relationships and the way we work together - with each other, with government, with our stakeholders and with society as a whole - in pursuit of our common goals.
